What Makes a Turntable Great?

But ultimately, EOC Audio believes a great turntable strikes a balance between build quality and performance, as well as staying within your budget.
Build Quality
A good turntable should be well-constructed and sturdy. It should have a solid plinth (base), a well-balanced tonearm, and a quality motor system. The materials used, such as high-density composites or heavy metals, can help reduce vibrations and resonance that may interfere with sound quality.
Speed Stability
Accurate speed is crucial for proper playback of vinyl records. A good turntable should maintain stable rotational speeds of 33 1/3, 45, and sometimes 78 RPM (revolutions per minute). Precise speed control contributes to consistent and accurate playback.
Tonearm & Cartridge

A heavier platter can reduce speed variations caused by external vibrations. A good turntable may also have a suitable mat or interface between the record and the platter to dampen resonance and reduce static.
Isolation and vibration control
Minimizing external vibrations and resonance is vital for accurate sound reproduction. Good turntables often incorporate isolation techniques such as shock-absorbing feet or suspension systems to reduce the impact of external vibrations and isolate the sensitive components.
